Vital Displays vs Yodeck
SMB-to-enterprise signage
Yodeck is the value leader with a long track record: a genuine free single-screen tier, cheap paid tiers, a large app/template catalog, and its signature low-cost Raspberry Pi player with strong offline caching. Native CAP alerting (Alertus, InformaCast) is available across tiers. It has no facilities-ops content model and carries an SMB brand rather than a compliance posture.
| Capability | Vital Displays | Yodeck |
|---|---|---|
| Multi-zone layouts & scheduling | Yes Multi-zone layouts, packages, day/time schedules, and group inheritance | Yes Zones, playlists, and scheduling advertised |
| Offline-resilient player | Yes Browser player caches its manifest and keeps rendering through network loss | Yes Offline caching (up to ~35 days) advertised |
| Emergency / CAP alert takeover (bundled) | Yes Emergency alert takeover is bundled at the flat price — not a paid add-on. External-CAP consumption (InformaCast/Alertus/Rave feeds) is on the roadmap | Yes Native CAP alerting across tiers (Alertus, InformaCast) |
| Proof-of-play / playback logging | Partial Roadmap: playback-confirmation logging is planned, not yet shipped | Not advertised |
| Ops content (work-order / room & dept status) | Yes Work-order / CMMS boards and room & department status as a first-class content model | Not advertised Large app catalog, but no work-order / room-status ops boards |
| Flat per-site pricing (no per-screen tax) | Yes Flat ~$49/site/mo — no per-screen charge and no device minimum | Not advertised Per-screen pricing |
| PHI-free / fast security review | Yes Deliberately PHI-free, ops-only posture designed to shorten IT security review | Not advertised Non-PHI, and reported not HIPAA-compliant by third parties; no fast-review posture marketed |
| Self-host / on-prem option | Partial Roadmap: single-tenant today; a self-host / on-prem option is planned | Not advertised Cloud-only |
Based on publicly available materials as of September 2026, including Yodeck's site. "Not advertised" means the capability was not described publicly — not that it can't be done. Items marked "Partial" for Vital Displays are on our roadmap and noted as such. Pricing reference: Free (1 screen) / $8 / $12 / $16 per screen/mo; annual adds a free Pi (published pricing, 2026).
Where Vital Displays differs
Vital Displays bundles emergency / CAP alert takeover at a flat ~$49/site — no per-screen tax and no device minimum — and treats facilities-ops content (work-order / CMMS boards, room and department status) as a first-class content model, not a custom build. A deliberately PHI-free, ops-only posture keeps IT security review short. Where a capability is still on our roadmap — playback logging, external-CAP consumption, self-host — we mark it "Partial" rather than claim it.
When Yodeck might fit you better
For a small deployment, or anyone who wants a free single screen, the cheapest paid entry point, and an inexpensive Raspberry Pi player, Yodeck is hard to beat at a low screen count. Do the density math: per-screen pricing crosses flat per-site pricing at roughly four-plus screens.
